JazzLeeds (formerly Seven Jazz) is a new charitable organisation to support the development of jazz in the city of Leeds for the future and to provide a lasting legacy for the superb jazz history of Leeds.

Jazz Leeds was been formed by Seven Jazz – the highly successful and popular voluntary jazz promoter based in Chapel Allerton in North Leeds, formed in 2007, winner of the best jazz club Jazz Yorkshire award and in May 2016 we won the national Parliamentary Jazz Award for the best UK Jazz venue at the House of Commons.

Since we started in 2007 we have had a lot of help from Seven Arts, Inkwell, Jazz Yorkshire, Jazz North and Leeds City Council in establishing us on the national and international jazz circuit.

JazzLeeds run a busy programme of evening and Sunday afternoon concerts year round with international, national and regional artists. We also run a programme of instrumental workshops designed for people who want to learn more about the music or to play with other musicians. We promote “Jazz Cafe” jam sessions where we encourage people to play and sing with support from high quality local rhythm sections. Our choir, the “Seven Jazz Voices Choir” meet in Inkwell, tutored by Tessa Smith, have performed widely in the city

We also have recently started two festivals –the week long JazzLeeds summer festival in July at city centre venues including the Wardrobe, the College of Music and Millennium Square, and the weekend Village Jazz Festival In North Leeds in September.

Seven Arts, our main venue, has great acoustics and a cafe with a wide range of drinks and food. It is at 31 Harrogate Road in Chapel Allerton, close to the city centre with good public transport and free local parking. Our other venue is the inspirational Inkwell Arts, a centre, an arts space for positive mental health run by Leeds Mind that not far from Seven Arts at 31 Potternewton Lane, also in Chapel Allerton.

JazzLeeds has a board of trustees, and an advisory group of supporters who help with running the events. The people involved are (in alphabetical order) Steve Crocker, Jon Duffield, Phil Green, Jeff Hewer, Rosemary Holmes, Will Powell, Trevor Prinn, Steve Ross, Jami Sheriff and Jean Watson. We are always looking for help – just come to one of our gigs and offer!
