Dom Ingham Quintet: Sun 3 Oct 1.30pm

DominicIngham

Sunday Oct 3 Dom Ingham Quintet The violin playing of Wakefield-born violinist Dominic Ingham has been described by Kit Downes as “a rare treat”.  Jazz violinist, singer and composer Dominic Ingham brings a brilliant band of talents from the London jazz scene, celebrating his debut album ‘Role Models’, with Jonny Mansfield on vibraphone, Miles Mindlin – Guitar, Will Sach – Bass and Dave Hamblett – Drums

Dominic Ingham is a British violinist, singer and composer who endeavours to combine violin techniques from his folk and classical background, in order to create a unique way of playing jazz violin. He has performed in a broad range of musical contexts, including five piece collective Bonsai, Jonny Mansfield’s Elftet, Camila Meza’s Nectar Orchestra and indie rock band Blaenavon. He has toured extensively across the UK and Europe, playing at prestigious venues/festivals such as Ronnie Scotts, Love Supreme, Heaven, The Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican and EFG London Jazz Festival. In June 2020, Dominic will release his debut album ‘Role Models‘ which features album artwork by Dutch artist Claudia Hoejenbos

Jazz violinists’ role models tend to follow a familiar continuum that runs roughly from Stuff Smith and Stephane Grappelli to Jean Luc Ponty and Didier Lockwood.  Dominic Ingham, however, paddles his own canoe. With a technique that draws as much from his folk and classical upbringing as it does from jazz, Ingham’s idiom is a personal one. The “role models” in question on his debut as leader, are the members of his new band: vibraphonist Johnny Mansfield; pianist David Swan, double bassist Will Sachs and drummer Boz Martin-Jones. Other originals are inspired by contemporary artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Walter Smith III and Camilla Meza

“Role Models propels Ingham into the ranks of young leaders who are writing an exciting chapter in contemporary UK jazz history. A fine violinist, and a writer of some maturity, Ingham has laid strong foundations upon which to build” Ian Patterson – All About Jazz
