Ed “Toots” Kainyek cites Dexter Gordan, Charlie Parker, Joe Henderson, Phil Woods and Grover Washington as key influences on his sax playing, although his sound is truly his own, and with each solo he makes his own statement. An alumni of Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra he is now based in Salford where he runs the Thirsty Scholar club.
