Jazz Leeds presents: Harry Allen @Seven Arts – Thursday 11 April 8pm £16/14 Harry Allen sax, Andrea Pozza piano, Simon Woolf bass, Anthony Pinciotta drums.
American jazzman Harry Allen is one of the finest exponents of swing saxophone in the world today. An exceptional talent, able to play tunes such as Body and Soul in the style of tenor players Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Flip Phillips, and Sam Donahue He is a traditionalist in the manner of Scott Hamilton. He is best known for his work with John Colianni, Dori Caymmi, Keith Ingham, John Pizzarelli, and Bucky Pizzarelli. His band is pretty good too – an American/European band with Andrea Pozza piano (Italy) , Simon Woolf bass, Anthony Pinciotta drums (USA). We only do the best for you (unlike some politicians we could name!) You’ll love it…
‘the most gifted new-generation swing tenorist to emerge since Scott Hamilton’…Digby Fairweather
‘Wherever lyrical, swinging, classic tenor saxophone is needed, Harry Allen answers the call’…Jazz Times
“Stan Getz was once asked his idea of the perfect tenor saxophone soloist. His answer was, ‘My technique, Al Cohn’s ideas, and Zoot’s time.’ The fulfillment of that ideal may well be embodied in thirty-year-old HARRY ALLEN.”…Gene Lees
“Harry Allen’s playing is nothing less than PERFECT”…John Pizzarelli
Support 8-8.30pm is from Carioca Soul – featuring the music of Sergio Mendes – with Georgina Barr on vocals, Richard Jevons guitar and Wayne Pollock piano
