Rafe’s Dilemma: Sun 12 Dec 1.30pm

Rafe's Dilemma 12-12-21 7arts

Jamil Sheriff keys, Katie Patterson drums, Pete Gavin bass and Nel Begley vocals.

Originally commissioned to celebrate the play Spring and Port Wine by Bill Naughton, Rafe’s Dilemma brings a mix of jazz, electronic music and rock to create an intriguing sound. The quartet immerses you in the story of a family on the edge, using spoken word, improvisation, synthesised soundscapes and carefully crafted songs. Expect to live the story through their music, feeling the multitude of emotions we all have towards our families and upbringings with an electric new perspective. More recently the quartet have been working with some new music, based on Sheffield playwright Leo Butler’s play ‘Redundant’ – some of this will also be featured.

They were a highlight of the Chapel Allerton Arts Festival in 2018 – we had to re arrange their summer 2021 date but are finally glad to welcome them back again to Seven Arts.

“A tour de operatic jazzy-rocky-jazz. Beautifully developed since the original commissioned performance. A beautiful blend or musical scrumptiousness of all kinds” Martin Powell BCB Jazz Radio
