Duo Matufia – featuring Martín Berger (alto/bari sax) and Pete Rosser (accordion) – some classic tangos, some Piazzolla nuevo tangos, some original tangos (and beyond) – all infused with a freewheeling jazz attitude and committed improvising.

Martín Berger is an Argentinian sax player composer and performer originally from Buenos Aires. He is passionate about teaching music and inspiring people to express themselves through sound: he definitely believes that music is all around us, and it should be accessible to everyone. Martín’s main instrument is saxophone, but he also plays clarinet and flute and when he has some free time at home he loves tinkering with his piano and guitar, or even some drums. Martín has lived in so many countries around the world that you almost wouldn’t recognise his Latin-American accent: after living in Argentina, France, Brazil, Poland, Switzerland and now England – he is now director of music at ChapelFM in Leeds and a vital mover/shaker in Leeds’ Latin and impro scenes.

Pete Rosser has been a freelance musician originally based in Sheffield, then Stroud and now living in Agbrigg, Wakefield. Among other activities, he is Musical Director for Leeds Grand Youth Theatre; pianist for ballet and contemporary dance classes at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, accompanist for In Harmony Opera North; accordionist with Trio Globo; pianist in ORB Trio with Richard Ormrod (saxes/guitar) and Paul Baxter (bass).  Pete is Wakefield’s most prominent improvising pianist/accordionist and founder member of leading UK tango ensemble Tango Siempre.
