You’ll enjoy at this year’s Jazz and Blues Sunday at Chapel Allerton Arts Festival with an ecelctic mix of jazz, brazillian music, brass band, big band and old fshioned R and B!

The Sunday main stage in Regent Street is presented by JazzLeeds who are also putting on events at Seven Arts on Thursday and Saturday evening during the Festival. This Sunday afternoon events start at 1pm and finishes at 6pm

H.U.M gospel choir – 1pm

One of the most versatile modern gospel choirs in the north, bringing to you soulful vocals that will have your hair’s on end. With many years of performance experience, this choir cover all genres in a unique gospel style.They have appeared many times at Seven Arts and the Barn at Meanwood

Tom Sharp Jazz orchestra 2 pm

Join this superb 20-piece line up performing classic Big Band Jazz from the 20th Century, as well as arrangements from members of the band.

The band started by performing at the legendary JazzLeeds Christmas Concert at Seven Arts in 2016, shortly after went on to win the prestigious Great North Big Band Competition and have moved from strength to strength ever since. With Tom Sharp as musical director, the band plays music from all across the big band repertoire of the twentieth century, focusing on the big swingers of the 50s, as well as showcasing arrangements from members of the orchestra.

Expect live music that’s anything but boring.  Rooted in pop, funk and hip hop, our brassy beats will give Chapel Allerton Festival the party feel and lift the roof off the Regent Street stage. Since 2016, we’ve been wreaking havoc in venues around the world, coaxing even the stubbornest of dance-phobics from their seats with our signature take on your go-to hits. We’re professional musicians with a packed-out calendar of events. You can trust us, so the only thing that keeps you guessing will be what big banger is coming up next.

Louis Louis Louis – blues + old fashioned R and B – 4pm

Classic jump blues, rocksteady and ska with thumpin’ slap bass, honkin’ horns, raucous four-part vocal harmonies, and a driving piano boogie.

Gustavo Andrade and the Brasukas – 11 piece Brazilian dance band – 5pm

Gustavo Andrade & The Brasukas are an 11-piece band led by Brazilian saxophonist Gustavo Andrade from Sao Paulo. Andrade studied jazz at Leeds Conservatoire and quickly became a member of several top jazz, nu-soul and hip-hop bands in the city. After the pandemic re-opening in summer 2021, he returned to the scene playing Brazilian music, firstly with his bossa jazz band Quinteto Gustavo Andrade and then in 2023, with his 11 piece big band The Brasukas.

Come down and enjoy Gustavo’s arrangements of classic Brazilian music from artists such as Leci Brandao, Seu Jorge, Jorge Ben, Ivete Sangalo, Tim Maia, Tom Jobim, Gilberto Gil and Djavan.
