One of Scotland’s leading modern jazz quartets with a passion for the music of the Blue Note catalogue

Doors: 1.30pm Music: 1.30pm

Jazz Main last appeared in Leeds in 2022 to much acclaim. Time to ask them back!

For more than 20 years, JazzMain has been one of Scotland’s leading modern jazz quartets, bringing the timeless music of the Blue Note era to audiences throughout the UK and Ireland. Based in Edinburgh, the band has performed hundreds of concerts at jazz clubs, theatres and festivals, including multiple appearances at the internationally acclaimed Guinness Cork Jazz Festival and several sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Renowned for its outstanding musicianship and exciting live performances, JazzMain combines the energy and spirit of classic hard bop with fresh, contemporary interpretations of music made famous by the legendary Blue Note label. Inspired by artists such as Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan, Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon and many others, the quartet delivers performances that are both authentic and unmistakably its own.

One of JazzMain’s greatest strengths is the remarkable continuity of its line-up. Since the band’s formation in 2003, the quartet has developed the intuitive musical understanding that can only come from performing together for more than two decades. Led by acclaimed tenor saxophonist Nick Gould, the band features Steve Grossart (piano and keyboards), Iain Harkness (five-string bass) and Kevin Dorrian (drums), four of Scotland’s most respected jazz musicians.

Alongside its passion for the Blue Note catalogue, JazzMain also explores soul, funk and contemporary jazz, bringing fresh arrangements and imaginative improvisation to every performance.
