Gustavo Andrade & The Brasukas are led by Brazilian saxophonist Gustavo Andrade from Sao Paulo. His 11 piece big band The Brasukas have played great shows for us at JazzLeeds. including memorably the headline spot at the 2024 Chapel Allerton Arts Festival. They perform the full spectrum of Brazilian music – Samba, MPB (Música Popular Brasileiro), Bossa Nova, Samba Rock, Axé, Forro, Brazilian soul, Frevo, Rio Jazz-Funk – and feature top musicians from the Leeds jazz/world music scenes with Portuguese vocalist Raquel Alvaro leading from the front.
Come down and enjoy Gustavo’s arrangements of classic Brazilian music from artists such as Leci Brandao, Seu Jorge, Jorge Ben, Ivete Sangalo, Tim Maia, Tom Jobim, Gilberto Gil and Djavan. There simply is no other Brazilian music band like them in the north. Come down and get some funky samba magic in your soul.
Come to the Roda! Play some Brazilian Rhythms with musicians from the Brazukas 3-5pm in the Seven Arts concert room before the evening gig! Cost £10 (free to evening concert ticket holders!)
