QOW explore the rich territory laid out by the great tradition of big-toned jazz tenor players over the generationsDoors: 1.00pm Music: 1.30pm
QOW TRIO is a unique multi-generational band featuring young firebrand saxophonist (and Leeds Conservatoire alumni) Riley Stone Lonergan, British Jazz legend Spike Wells (Tubby Hayes, Bobby Wellins) on drums, and multi-genre bassist and bandleader Eddie Myer.
The trio initially got together through their mutual love of Sonny Rollins’ classic piano-less trios of the 1950s but soon found themselves expanding their repertoire to explore the rich and varied territory laid out by the great tradition of big-toned tenor players over the generations.
Their first album was released on Ubuntu Music to excellent reviews in national press and has been played on Jazz Fm and BBC Radio 3, and extensively playlisted on Spotify.
The trio’s most recent album ‘The Hold Up’ was released in January 2024 on Ubuntu Music and was described as ‘A stunning achievement’ by the BBC Music Magazine and our debut was given Four Stars in The Scotsman and The Times
Engagements since 2020 have included Pizza Express Jazz Club, The Vortex, The 606 Club, Love Supreme Festival, Rye Jazz Festival, The Brighton Jazz Festival, Jazz In The Round and an an extensive tour of Ireland.
This year the group are celebrating Spike Wells’ amazing 60 year career in UK jazz including many years with Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes and Bobby Wellins among many many others.
