Doors: 7.30pm Music: 7.30pm

This concert and workshop are part of this year’s Chapel Allerton Arts Festival 2026

Led by Argentinian saxophonist Martin Berger, Balanço Malandro is an all-star ensemble bringing together some of the finest musicians from the Leeds jazz and world music scenes. The band features acclaimed São Paulo-born percussionist and vocalist Gustavo Andrade (Gustavo and the Brasucas), alongside Pete Rosser (ORB Trio) on accordion and piano, Tom McEwen on guitar, and Brendan Bache on drums.

Drawing on the rich traditions of Brazilian choro and samba, Balanço Malandro performs music by masters such as Jacob do Bandolim, Pixinguinha, Djavan and João Bosco, alongside modern works by Hermeto Pascoal, Eduardo Neves and Hamilton de Holanda.

Tickets for concert £14/12/10

Before their evening show, Gustavo and Martín will be leading one of their Roda de Choro & Samba sessions – a jam-along workshop open to all musicians wanting to learn elements of Brazilian rhythms and music genres and anyone who wants to watch. Music will be shared with attendees in advance, and the band members will happily assist anyone by demonstrating chord structures, rhythms, or soloing strategies. There will be an opportunity for participants to join in the evening concert.

Workshop tickets £10 (but free to evening concert ticket holders)
